Meeting Participant Introductions
1:15 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.
Arizona Renewable Resource and Transmission Identification Subcommittee (ARRTIS)
Regulated utilities have been directed by the Arizona Corporation Commission to identify their top three transmission lines projects to help access renewable energy resource areas. As a result the ARRTIS subcommittee was formed to help the utilities assess where renewable energy development may occur in Arizona and where transmission should be built. The presentation will review the subcommittee, its purpose and status of this open, stakeholder process.
Greg Bernosky, Arizona Public Service Company
1:45 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.
Arizona’s Wind Resource 101
Arizona’s wind resource is often under estimated. The state possesses utility-scale wind energy in several regions. Dr. Acker will provide a wind energy 101 on the location of the best resources in the state and provide an overview of development activities in those areas.
Dr. Tom Acker, Northern Arizona University
2:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.
Jobs and Dollars from Wind
The Jobs and Economic Development Impact (JEDI) model developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory provides a tool to calculate the economic benefits of wind development. Learn about the analysis conducted for Arizona and the jobs and dollars that could be generated in the state from wind projects.
Karin Wadsack, Northern Arizona University
2:45 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Networking Break
3:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Federal Economic Stimulus Dollars
Significant dollars have been designated from the federal stimulus package for wind energy, renewable energy and transmission projects. Our speaker will provide an overview of the measures that were passed and help us understand how the dollars will flow to and could benefit Arizona.
Craig Cox, Interwest Energy Alliance
3:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
New Western Area Power Administration Transmission Programs
On March 4 Western announced in the Federal Register a Request for Information for new transmission projects that can be funded the $3.25 billion authorized in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Western is seeking partnerships to develop transmission to move renewable energy resources around the west. In a related notice Western is seeking to develop the practices and policies to implement the new transmission building authority. Our speaker will discuss the intent, timelines and expectations for the programs.
Darrick Moe, Western Area Power Administration
4:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
APS Resource Plan 2009-2025
APS recently filed a voluntary resource plan that evaluates different energy resource options to meeting growing electric load. The plan proposes it significant increase in reliance on wind and other renewable energy resources. The APS manager for resource planning will provide a summary of the drivers behind the plan and its elements. http://www.aps.com/resources
Bradley Albert, Arizona Public Service Company

Putting Wind on the Wires – Arizona Wind Power Forum
Friday, November 7, 2008
ASU Downtown Mercado, Phoenix, Arizona
This one-day forum provided information on the latest in planning and forecasting wind energy generation in Arizona, an update on local projects,
transmission planning to access wind areas in the state, maximizing the use of a variable resources in a growing energy market and more!
Agenda
8:00 – 9:00 a.m.
Registration
9:00 – 10:00 a.m.
Defining the Challenge – Seeing the Opportunity
Arizona and the nation face growing energy challenges. Wind energy has a significant part to play to provide the nation with clean, reliable electric power
to meet growing energy needs. Our opening panel will provide a context for the day’s discussion by providing a state perspective on the challenges and
hearing from a leading utility their experience with wind energy.
10:00 – 11:45 a.m.
The Latest in Planning and Forecasting
To successfully utilize wind energy utilities must build the transmission necessary to bring wind from its remote location and manage the variable nature
of the resource. This panel will delve into wind integration and forecasting issues and provide an overview of transmission planning efforts that will
support the development of wind in our state.
11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Networking Luncheon
Sponsored by Iberdrola Renewables
1:00 – 1:45 p.m.
New Policy to Support Wind Development
Developing supportive policy and regulation helps to create stable markets where industries can thrive and grow. This session will cover two important
developments that will support expanded use of wind. The panelists will review guidance for assessing bird and bat populations in the region and the new
Investment Tax Credit available for small wind systems of 100kW or less.
1:45 – 315 p.m.
Developing Arizona’s Wind Resource
Arizona’s developable wind resource stretches across Northern Arizona from Navajo to Mohave Counties. In the past few years this resources has been
analyzed and measured and projects are under development across Arizona’s northland. This panel of experts will discuss active projects and efforts,
including Arizona’s first commercial wind project that will be brought on-line in 2009.
3:15 – 3:30 pm Break
3:30 – 5:00 p.m.
The Path Forward
Arizona needs new sources of electricity, and wind energy has the potential to meet a portion of this new demand, but what does the path forward look like?
Electric utilities will discuss their outlook for wind energy and we will provide an update on the federal policy landscape.
