AGENDA
FIRST MEETING OF THE
ARIZONA WIND WORKING GROUP
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2001
8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
ARIZONA SCIENCE CENTER
Board Room
600 E. Washington St.
PHOENIX, ARIZONA
Over the past two decades the cost of generating electricity using wind
turbines has dropped dramatically. As a consequence, wind energy
is the fastest growing energy source in the world. Present day wind
turbines are quieter, less expensive (per kW), more reliable, and
better understood than they were just 10 years ago. Harnessing
wind energy in Arizona offers the potential for economic growth while
also generating electricity from a clean energy source. With this
motivation, the purpose of the meeting today is to address the
following fundamental questions:
- Does Arizona have a wind resource worth developing?
- If a viable wind resource does exist, can it be developed
economically and sustainably? What are the costs and what are the
benefits? What are the barriers and what are the opportunities?
- In order to answer these questions and resolve the issues raised
at this meeting, how do we proceed?
To address these questions, the agenda to follow has been broken into
the following categories:
- Overview of Wind Energy
- Status of Wind Energy in Arizona
- Arizona Stakeholders: Activities and Perspectives
- Future of Wind Energy in Arizona
