Project Name: Wind Resource Maps of Arizona
Deliverables:
1. Mean annual and seasonal maps and
data of wind speed at 30, 50, 70 and 100 meters and wind power density
at 50 meters on a 400 m grid. Specifically, the following maps
will be included (total of 26 maps):
a. Mean annual and
seasonal maps of the wind power density at 50 meters with overlays (A)
and (B) (described below). (Total of 10 maps.)
b. Mean annual maps of wind speed at 30, 50, 70, and
100 meters with overlays (A) and (B). (Total of 8 maps.)
c. Mean seasonal maps of wind speed at 50 meters with
overlays (A) and (B). (Total of 8 maps.)
d. Mean annual and seasonal wind rose and Weibull k
data on a 400 m grid.
Overlays:
(A) Major roads
(state and national highways), transmission lines, major cities, State
and Federal lands (including national parks), and county boundaries.
(B) Major roads (state and national highways),
transmission lines, major cities, State and Federal lands (including
national parks), and Native American Reservation
boundaries.
2. Normalized monthly mean wind speed,
wind rose, and Weibull k data at 30, 50, 70, and 100 meters and wind
power density at 50 meters on an 8 km grid. Included will be a set of
maps of monthly mean wind power density at 50 meters with the overlays
(B) above (total of 12 maps).
3. Normalized annual and seasonal mean diurnal wind speed, wind rose,
and Weibull k data on an 8 km grid at 30, 50, 70, and 100 meters, and
wind power density at 50 meters. Included will be example plots of the
diurnal wind speed variation at one specific location to be determined
later by NAU. Example plots will be provided at this location for the
annual and seasonal data (total of 5 plots).
4. TrueWind will provide on a CD an ArcExplorer project file with
associated shape and image files. This will allow the project
sponsors to view the wind speed and wind power density maps, zoom, pan,
and query the data at any grid point. Major roads, geographical
boundaries, and other data layers will be included (Note that
transmission overlays are not included due to copyright restrictions
unless provided by the project sponsors to TrueWind).
5. CD ROM(s) with all supporting data.
6. Final Project Report.
7. Basic technical assistance provided to NAU and the Arizona Utility
Partners to answer questions, assist in utilizing data files, and
advise in continued validation of the map data.
8. All maps will be provided in both PDF and JPEG formats, as well as
color printed maps on 11”X17” paper. All map data will be
provided as CSV files and in a GIS format suitable for use in
ArcView.
Price:
All work will be performed for a Firm
Fixed Price of $40,000. This price reflects a reduction of
$25,000 in the actual cost due to a cost share from the NREL. Payment
for the map will be made on the following schedule:
$15,000 up front when the purchase agreement is made.
$15,000 upon delivery of the preliminary wind map.
$10,000 upon delivery of the final report and all other deliverables
specified above.
Schedule:
- Preliminary wind maps of mean annual wind speed and wind power
density at 50 meters will be delivered in January 2003.
- Delivery of the preliminary wind maps will be followed by
validation of the wind map by staff at the National Renewable Energy
Laboratory (NREL), those interested Arizona Utility Partners and NAU,
and a team of independent consulting meteorologists under contract to
NREL.
- Delivery of all final wind maps, supporting data, interactive
CD-ROM, and the Final Project Report is expected in April 2003.
